China will ban free plastic bags from shops and call on consumers to use baskets and cloth bags to reduce environmental pollution.
The regulation, which came into effect on June, was decided about 15 years after shopkeepers began distributing cheap, fragile plastic bags to customers.
\"White pollution\" refers to the color of many bags, and the filling area is messy.
\"Our country consumes a lot of plastic shopping bags every year,\" the State Council said . \".
\"Although plastic shopping bags provide convenience for consumers, due to excessive use and inadequate recycling, they have caused serious waste of energy resources and environmental pollution.
\"This regulation is part of Beijing\'s increased efforts to deal with pollution that is accompanied by rapid economic growth.

Starting in June 1, all supermarkets, department stores and stores will be banned from distributing plastic bags free of charge, the State Department said.
