new zealand to ban plastic shopping bags by next year

WELLINGTON, New Zealand-
New Zealand plans to ban disposable plastic shopping bags by next July as the country tries to fulfill its cleaning-and-green image.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Friday that New Zealanders use hundreds of millions of bags a year, some of which eventually pollute valuable coastal and marine environments.
Two major supermarket chains in New Zealand have announced their own plans to phase out plastic shopping bags by the end of this year.
Some countries and states have imposed bans or restrictions on singles.
Plastic bags are used, including France, Belgium, China, Hawaii and California.
But a large supermarket chain in Australia has changed its route several times this year as customers are angry about its plans to start charging shoppers for luggage.
